About this kit
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9, nicknamed 'Langnasen-Dora' ('long-nosed Dora') for the extended engine cowling needed to house its inline Junkers Jumo 213A powerplant, was the Luftwaffe's answer to declining high-altitude performance in the radial-engined Fw 190A. Entering service in autumn 1944, the D-9 restored competitive speed and climb against Allied Mustangs and Spitfires, and its most celebrated role came flying top cover for Me 262 jets during take-off and landing at airfields like Achmer and Rheine with Adolf Galland's elite Jagdverband 44.
Dragon's 1/48 tooling reproduces the D-9's lengthened forward fuselage, distinctive tail-wheel-forward stance and slender inline cowling with sharply moulded panel lines, using slide-mould technology to capture the complex nose contours in as few parts as possible.
The kit includes finely detailed cockpit and undercarriage components plus decals for genuine late-war unit markings, allowing builders to recreate the D-9 in its historic role defending Germany's jet airfields in the final months of the war.
A standout subject for Luftwaffe fighter collectors and a natural companion piece to any Me 262 build.
