The Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 was the most heavily produced version of Kurt Tank's radial-engined fighter, entering service in early 1944 as the Luftwaffe's frontline defence against growing waves of Allied heavy bombers. Powered by a BMW 801D-2 radial engine and built to accept an extensive range of field modification kits (Rustsatze), the A-8 could be configured as an interceptor, a heavily armoured 'Sturmbock' bomber-destroyer with additional cannon and cockpit armour, or a fighter-bomber, and equipped elite Sturmgruppen and the 'Wilde Sau' night-fighting units of JG300, JG301 and JG302.
Dragon's 1/48 kit captures the A-8's distinctive short, portly fuselage and the BMW 801's characteristic cowling with slide-moulded parts for crisp engine and cowl-flap detail, plus finely engraved panel lines across the wings and fuselage.
The kit provides optional underwing gun pod and stores fittings reflecting the type's varied Rustsatz field kits, along with a detailed cockpit and decals for genuine late-war Luftwaffe unit markings.
An essential build for anyone assembling a representative collection of Germany's most important wartime fighter family.
