The Heinkel He 219A-0 Uhu ("Eagle-Owl") was Germany's first purpose-built night fighter and one of the most advanced Luftwaffe aircraft of the war, notable as the first operational type fitted with ejection seats and tricycle undercarriage. Flying with elite units such as NJG 1, the He 219 proved a dangerous opponent for RAF Mosquito intruders and heavy bomber streams during the night offensive over the Reich.
