The FV601 Saladin was Britain's principal 6x6 wheeled armoured car of the Cold War, built by Alvis and entering service in 1958. Armed with a 76mm high-velocity gun and riding on fully independent suspension, it combined real firepower with the speed and low running costs of a wheeled chassis, serving with the British Army into the 1970s and with more than a dozen export customers across the Middle East and Africa well into the 1990s.
Dragon's 1/35 kit renders the Saladin's distinctive six-wheel layout, sloped hull glacis and low, rounded turret with crisply moulded panel lines and hatch detail, using the slide-mould technology the company is known for to keep the gun barrel and turret castings free of unsightly seams.
The kit includes detailed suspension and steering components for all three axles, a fully detailed 76mm main gun, and a decal sheet covering authentic British Army and export markings so builders can choose the livery that suits their diorama or collection.
An unusual wheeled subject alongside the more common tracked AFVs in Dragon's range, this Saladin is a great pick for Cold War armour collectors and anyone wanting to add a British reconnaissance vehicle to a mixed-nation display.
