Scharnhorst was the lead ship of her class of German fast battleships, commissioned in 1939 and best known for sinking the carrier HMS Glorious during the Norwegian campaign, running the daring "Channel Dash" home to Germany with sister ship Gneisenau in February 1942, and finally being sunk by the Royal Navy at the Battle of the North Cape in December 1943.

Dragon's 1/350 Scharnhorst kit uses slide-mould technology to render the ship's distinctive Atlantic bow, triple 283mm Drh C/34 gun turrets and heavily raked funnel as crisp, seam-minimised parts, with finely scribed deck planking and portholes running the length of the hull.

The kit supplies photo-etched railings and other fine superstructure detail alongside a comprehensive decal sheet, and can be assembled as either a full-hull or waterline model.

A rewarding, detail-rich subject for Kriegsmarine enthusiasts and WWII naval collectors looking for a large-scale display centrepiece.
