USS Laffey (DD-459) was a Benson-class destroyer commissioned in 1942 whose brief career ended in one of the most dramatic actions of the Pacific War. During the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on the night of 13 November 1942, Laffey closed to point-blank range against the Japanese battleship Hiei, raking her superstructure with gunfire before being struck by the battleship's main guns and sunk — an act of aggression that helped cripple Hiei and turn the battle in the Allies' favour.

Dragon's 1/350 kit reproduces Laffey's 1942 wartime configuration, with slide-moulded hull and superstructure sections capturing her main gun mounts, torpedo tubes and depth-charge racks in crisp, seam-free detail.

Photo-etched railings, ladders and antenna fittings, together with a decal sheet for hull numbers, allow the model to be completed as a full-hull or waterline display.

A poignant subject for Guadalcanal naval history enthusiasts, this kit commemorates one of the US Navy's most courageous destroyer actions of WWII.
