The Tamiya 1/700 USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier (77510) reproduces the Yorktown-class carrier that launched the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in April 1942 — the audacious mission that sent B-25 Mitchell bombers from her flight deck to bomb the Japanese capital, demonstrating that Japan's homeland was not invulnerable. Hornet subsequently fought at the Battle of Midway before being sunk at the Battle of Santa Cruz in October 1942, one of the most stubbornly-fought carrier actions of the Pacific War.
