The Italeri 1/72 Tupolev Tu-22M3 Backfire (1440) is a 1/72 scale model kit of the Tupolev Tu-22M3 Backfire C — the Soviet variable-sweep supersonic bomber that was one of NATO's primary strategic concerns during the Cold War. The Tu-22M3 could carry nuclear weapons or anti-ship missiles at supersonic speeds, threatening NATO carrier battle groups and European targets. Even at 1/72 scale the Tu-22M3's imposing size and swept-wing profile make this a striking model. Still in Russian service today, it has seen recent combat use.
