The Fairey Gannet was a pioneering naval aircraft and the first turboprop-powered machine to land on an aircraft carrier deck in 1950. The AS.1 variant entered Royal Navy service in 1954 and became the most widely produced model. Beyond British waters, the Gannet operated with Australian, West German, and Indonesian naval forces, though the Royal Navy retained examples in active service longer than any other operator.
