The Panavia Tornado GR.1 was one of the most important strike aircraft of the 1991 Gulf War, forming the backbone of the Royal Air Force’s low-level attack capability. Designed as a multi-role combat aircraft through a tri-national European collaboration between the UK, Germany, and Italy, the Tornado GR.1 proved its worth in high-intensity operations over Iraq and Kuwait.
During Operation Desert Storm, RAF Tornado squadrons carried out daring low-altitude missions against heavily defended airfields and infrastructure, employing JP233 runway denial systems, laser-guided bombs, and conventional munitions.
