The GMC M12 self-propelled gun served the U.S. Army during World War II, built on the M3 Lee/Grant tank chassis and outfitted with the French GPF 155 mm gun. Its primary weapon, ammunition, and gun crew were positioned within an open compartment at the rear, while only the driver’s and radio operator’s seats were armored. To manage recoil from firing, the M12 featured a rear-mounted blade that was lowered and anchored into the ground for stability.
