The F-14 Tomcat served from the early 1970s to 2006, initially as a fleet defence fighter before expanding its role in the 1990s to include strike capabilities. The addition of the LANTIRN targeting pod enabled long-range laser-guided bombing missions. The F-14D, the final variant introduced in 1992, featured upgraded avionics and the powerful General Electric F110-GE-400 engines, operating in combat zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan until its retirement in 2006.
