Tamiya’s 1/35 scale M36 Tank Destroyer kit represents a significant update to their original 1968 release, now featuring almost entirely new parts (excluding the M2 machine gun and transparent components carried over from recent kits). The M36, developed to counter formidable German armour, was mounted on the M10A1 chassis and equipped with a powerful 90mm gun in a distinctive open-top turret. Entering combat in October 1944, it played a vital role in the Allied advance through Europe, with over 1,000 units fielded by the end of the war.
This kit captures the M36’s unique structure with exceptional accuracy, offering detailed interior elements such as the breech, shell racks, floor, and bulkheads. The curved rear counterweight of the turret features realistic cast textures and benefits from slide-moulded construction for straightforward assembly. Also included are accessories like ammo boxes, tow cables, an exhaust deflector, and a tanker figure. The tracks are assembly-type with straight-run sections, and two sets of markings allow builders to depict vehicles from either the 3rd Army in Luxembourg or the 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Germany.
